Wireless Synchronization

Pendragon Forms includes a built in synchronization server that allows handheld users to synchronize over TCP/IP networks.

You will need to install the Pendragon Forms Manager program on a machine with a fixed IP address.  Handheld devices will need to be able to connect to the Internet.

The Pendragon Forms SyncServer encrypts the data during transmission.

Palm Powered Handhelds

If you have a wireless Palm OS handheld or smartphone, such as a Palm Treo 650, with data service, you can synchronize Pendragon Forms wirelessly to a network server.  Pendragon Forms 5.1 must be installed on a machine with a fixed IP address.

In addition to the Forms 5.1 application, another program called S-Link is installed on the handheld. S-Link is used to initiate wireless synchronization of Pendragon Forms.

For detailed instructions on installing configuring S-Link to synchronize wirelessly, see pages 6-7 in the Pendragon Forms Reference Manual (8.1 MB PDF).

Windows Mobile Pocket PCs

On Pocket PCs, the S-Link program is combined and installed with the Forms application.  There is not a separate S-Link program icon and you will not need to install anything separately. Just connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi, bluetooth or dial-up and then you can synchronize your forms.

When configuring your Pocket PC, you will need to change the Server address from the default setting (PC) to the IP address of the machine with Pendragon Forms.

For detailed instructions on installing configuring S-Link to synchronize wirelessly, see pages 8-9 in the Pendragon Forms Reference Manual (8.1 MB PDF).

Setting Up Pendragon SyncServer

If you want to use Pendragon SyncServer to synchronize across the Internet, you will need to do several things:

1) Install Pendragon SyncServer on a machine with a fixed IP address.

2) Set a rule on your corporate firewall that allows connections from Pendragon SyncServer clients to connect to the server program.  This means adding the following rule on your corporate server:

Packet Incoming From

Packet Going To

Allowed

Any IP address, any port

Company SyncServer server on port 201

Yes

 3)    Most client systems do not need any firewall adjustments.  However, if the client-side firewall does allow a desktop with a corporate IP address to connect to the company SyncServer on Port 201, you will need to add a rule on the client-side firewall like this one:

Packet Incoming From

Packet Going To

Allowed

Corporate desktop IP address, any port

Company SyncServer server on port 201

Yes

Additional information about Pendragon SyncServer is available in Appendix D of the Pendragon Forms Reference Manual (8.1 MB PDF).

Wireless Internet Service Troubleshooting

Some wireless data service providers may not give you general purpose Internet access.  To verify that your data service will support Pendragon Forms wireless synchronization, launch your web browser and go to a site such as www.pendragonsoftware.com.  You may need to sign-in to your Internet service provider or  authenticate to your network before synchronizing.
